For the second year in a row ADT has had a presence at the CES in Vegas. Some may wonder why a security company is at an electronics and gadget show but with the new home automation advances with ADT Pulse there is excitement to share with the world. I do not think other security companies have taken advantage of the CES show like ADT but I wonder if others will with more and more advances in technology and services being offered by security companies today.
With a large percentage of new customers choosing to control their alarm system and home from their smartphone and other web enabled devices those without one of these cloud services like Alarm.com or ADT Pulse are starting to become the minority.
ADT takes advantage of the timing to announce new features, technology, and partnerships. They announced a first ever voice app that can control the alarm system and home automation. (Apple has already announced some interest in home automation and I wonder if and how long Alarm.com will take to have a similar option) ADT also announced the ability to control the garage door and other larger alliances. (Alarm.com has had a Liftmaster option since Q2 2013 I believe). Other announcements were a service called Canopy that can help track friends and family for safety, a partnership with McAfee to start offering digital protection, and a partnership with Ford where drivers can control their alarm system and home automation with their voice while driving. With these announcements security seems to be branching into many different verticals. I have not seen digital protection being offered by an alarm company on this kind of scale before. Â It is exciting to follow these new annoucements that will benefit the industry and particularly many Utah companies focused on Home Automation.
